PC Update:

I've been in touch with my PC repair guy. He concluded that my video card has been the problem of the motherboard shorting out. He suggested grabbing a new card. Ditching XP for Ubuntu 8.04?

Hey everyone,

Well, recently my XP box has been needing repair. It's getting no power to the PSU. It should be backup within a few days (crosses fingers). In the meantime, a few months ago a coworker of mine who builds PC's for friends and associates was kind enough to give me a decent AMD 2600+ Athlon XP, 128 megs of RAM, integrated audio/video. Nothing too special, but it works. Originally it had PCLinux2007 installed but the owner didn't write down the username/password. I decided to download the latest version of Ubuntu. I've used Ubuntu in the past and have had much luck with the OS. After the install, I spent a couple days fussin around with the system to have audio, config my desktop and panel to my liking, getting updates, setting up my IM/IRC software, reading my NTFS drive (no write support, yet), and many other small tweaks that I've done. As of now, the system is just about there, except for the write support for my ntfs drive. But in the end, I've taken much pride and dedication to my new Ubuntu setup..way more dedication than I've ever given any version of Windows. So the question remains, have I ditched XP for Ubuntu 8.04? Only time will tell, but the chances are looking good...

Birthday + a few goodies for the system

Well, I'm 23 years old now...hard to believe. I had a couple goodies I got for my birthday. First off, was the 20'' HDTV that I use for my primary tv. And second, was my 19'' Widescreen LCD monitor for my system. I still use the 17'' LCD but I am lacking the need of another DVI connector for my videocard...already found one on eBay so I am grabbing a couple of those.

Gaming on the new rig

Well, I've been gaming quite often on the new rig. Been enjoying how well the video card responds quicks and smoothly to just about every game I've played so far. I've been able to keep the video card settings on maximum to break out the most potential for my card. I've also been watching dvd videos and tv episodes on my new rig as well..with my 5.1 surround sound and 17'' LCD display, it's flippin beautiful. I almost use my computer to watch dvds more than my regular tv. Anyway I thought I'd just post an update. Anything new I will post here.

Running Ubuntu Linux 7.04

Well, I'm finding myself drawn to the Linux world for many reasons. 1) The OS is completely free 2) New challenges and problems arise, thus learning something new each time you use the OS, and many, many more to list...

Anyway, I was running Ubuntu 7.04 a few weeks ago on my custom desktop. I liked it, alot. I learned many new shell commands. Installed a ton of applications manually and configured them to my liking. One of the programs of which I installed was called Beryl. This little program transforms your plain Ubuntu desktop into a 3D amazing graphic enviorment. I had also a few programs on the side for my personal use (xmms, IM, IRC, FTP, SSH, etc.) that I had customized as well.

I have mistakenly formatted my C:\ and removed the Ubuntu partition. Reason? I did not have a plan set. I think if your thinking about installing an alternative OS, you need a plan to follow by. If not, in 3 days you'll find yourself formatting, just like I did. I'm drawing myself out a plan in my head, so that when I want and find myself the time to install Ubuntu 7.04 again, I will be prepared to make the change, yet again. I really miss the OS. The first time I used it was back in 2005, when it was first emerging from the Linux scene. It hadn't received the attention it deserves. Once my plan is ready, I will install the OS once again from the DVD. I will most likely dual-boot with XP. Hence, only using XP when I really need to.
